- Preheat a grill or large skillet over medium-high heat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, kosher salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until ingredients are just incorporated.
- Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape into patties slightly wider than the buns.
- Grill or pan-fry patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until preferred doneness is reached. In the final minute, place a slice of cheddar on each patty to melt.
- While the patties cook, melt unsalted butter in a skillet over medium heat. Place buns cut side down and toast until golden brown.
- In a small bowl, thoroughly mix mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, Dijon mustard, hot sauce if using, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Spread crack sauce generously on both halves of each toasted bun. Layer with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, and thinly sliced red onion. Add the cheese-topped patty, followed by two slices of crispy bacon and the top bun.
- Serve immediately with additional crack sauce on the side, if desired.
